Why We Built BossPDF — And What We're Building Next
We set out to build the PDF app we wished existed: fast, simple, private, and powerful enough to replace everything else. Here's the story behind BossPDF and where we're headed.
The problem was obvious
We’ve all been there. You need to sign a contract on your phone. Or merge two PDFs before a meeting. Or compress a 30 MB file so it’ll actually send over email.
So you open the App Store and find… a mess.
One app does scanning but not signing. Another does merging but crashes on large files. A third wants $10/month just to add text to a PDF. Most of them blast you with ads, upload your documents to some random server, or bury basic features behind confusing menus.
We thought: this shouldn’t be this hard.
So we built BossPDF
BossPDF is the app we wished existed. One app that does everything you need with PDFs — and nothing you don’t.

Point your camera at any document and get a clean, high-quality PDF in seconds. Convert photos to PDF. Import Word docs and other files. Open PDFs from Mail, Safari, or any app using iOS “Open With.” It just works.
Edit, Annotate & Sign
Add text anywhere on a PDF. Highlight passages, draw freehand annotations, and mark up documents your way. Insert your signature with your finger or Apple Pencil — and save it so you never have to draw it again.
Merge, Split & Organize
Combine multiple PDFs into one document. Split a 200-page manual by page range. Drag and drop to reorder pages. Extract the pages you need and trash the rest. Full control over every page.
Compress & Protect
Shrink a 22 MB file down to 16 MB without visible quality loss — choose from Light, Medium, High, or Maximum compression. Lock sensitive documents with a password. Manage file permissions so only the right people can print, copy, or edit.
Bulk Processing
This is where BossPDF really stands apart. Merge dozens of PDFs at once. Batch compress an entire folder. Convert multiple documents in a single tap. No other mobile PDF app gives you this kind of power.
iCloud Sync
Your documents sync automatically across iPhone and iPad. BossPDF works natively with the Files app, so your PDFs are always where you expect them.
Three things we refuse to compromise on
1. Privacy is not negotiable
Your documents never leave your device. Every scan, every edit, every merge — it all happens locally on your iPhone or iPad. We don’t upload your files. We don’t store them on our servers. We don’t even have servers that could store them. Your PDFs are yours. Period.
2. Simple beats clever
We could add 50 more buttons and call ourselves “feature-rich.” Instead, we obsess over making every feature feel obvious. If you have to think about how to do something, we’ve failed. BossPDF should feel like it reads your mind.
3. No ads. Ever.
We will never show you an ad. Not a banner. Not an interstitial. Not a “watch this video to unlock” gate. We make money by building something worth paying for — not by selling your attention.
